Furniture, Electronics and Appliance Stores: Auto Campaigns Around Big-Ticket Buying
Fact-checked by BrandOnAuto Campaign Operations · Manages installation and GPS verification across 20+ cities

Quick Answer
Furniture, electronics and appliance stores suit auto rickshaw advertising because big-ticket buyers decide slowly, shop close to home and need to see a store name often before visiting. Book a three-month hood campaign of 30 to 50 autos inside the showroom's 5 to 8 km catchment, timed to a buying peak, with one category, one offer and the location.
Key Takeaways
- A sofa, a fridge or a television is a considered purchase: people compare for weeks and then buy within a delivery radius of home. Autos repeat the store name on those exact streets every day of the decision.
- Big-ticket buying clusters around Dhanteras and Diwali, Republic Day sales, the summer cooling season and the wedding months. A three-month booking should cover the run-up, the peak and the fortnight after.
- Put one category, one offer and the store's locality on the hood, with an EMI line if you offer one. A hood with twelve products is a catalogue page nobody can read at 30 metres.
- A 40-auto hood campaign for three months costs ₹69,600 in media plus about ₹10,000 to ₹16,000 in one-time printing, at ₹580 per auto per month.
- Measure with a "how did you hear about us" question at billing, a store-specific phone number and a QR to the offer page, compared with the same season last year.

Why Do Furniture and Electronics Stores Suit Auto Advertising?
Three things are true of almost every big-ticket purchase, and each of them favours a medium that repeats locally.
- The decision is slow. Nobody buys a wardrobe or a washing machine on impulse. A household notices the need, discusses it, compares a few options online and in person, and buys weeks later. A store that was visible through all of those weeks is on the shortlist. A store that advertised once is not.
- The purchase is local. Delivery, installation and service all favour a showroom within a short drive of home. Most standalone furniture and appliance stores draw the bulk of their customers from a 5 to 8 km catchment, the same logic our post on jewellery and premium retail sets out for other high-consideration categories.
- The trip is planned. Big-ticket shoppers go out to buy, often as a family, often at the weekend. They need to know where the store is and that it is worth the trip. A hood that carries the locality name does that job all day.
Auto rickshaws run the residential lanes, market roads and main-road showroom strips of that catchment, which is why a 40-auto fleet inside the right 6 km does more for a showroom than a hoarding on a highway two zones away. Our guide to zone targeting explains how to keep a fleet inside a catchment.
When Do People Buy Big-Ticket Items?
Demand for furniture, electronics and appliances is not flat across the year. It bunches around a handful of windows, and the campaign should start before each one, not during it.
| Buying window | What sells | When to have autos on the road |
|---|---|---|
| Dussehra to Dhanteras and Diwali | Televisions, refrigerators, washing machines, kitchen appliances, furniture for the festive home | From mid-September; in 2026 Dhanteras falls on 6 November and Diwali on 8 November |
| Wedding season (November to February in much of North and West India) | Beds, wardrobes, sofas, dining sets, appliances for a new household | From October, running through the season |
| Republic Day and Independence Day sale periods | Electronics and appliances on promotion | Two to three weeks before each date |
| Summer (March to May) | Air conditioners, coolers, refrigerators, fans | From late February, before the first hot week |
| New-home possessions and regional new-year days (Gudi Padwa, Ugadi, Akshaya Tritiya, Pohela Boishakh) | Furniture and full-home appliance sets | Three to four weeks before the date, in the relevant region |
Two things follow from the table. First, a three-month booking covering the run-up, the peak and the fortnight after is the right unit; our festival season guide shows why campaigns that end on Diwali night leave the busiest post-festival fortnight uncovered. Second, if you are reading this in mid-October, a Diwali fleet this year will be a rush booking with second-choice zones. It can still be worth doing, but the better plan is to book now for the wedding and summer windows and treat Diwali 2027 as the campaign to prepare properly.
What Should the Hood Say?
The most common mistake in this category is treating the hood like a newspaper page. A furniture store has two hundred products and wants all of them on the auto. The hood is read in two or three seconds from 30 metres, so it carries one message. Our 30-metre design rule covers the basics; for big-ticket retail, use this order:
- 1One category. "Sofas" or "ACs" or "Double-door fridges", not "Furniture, electronics, appliances, mattresses and more".
- 2One offer, honestly stated. A flat discount, an exchange offer or a free installation. If the offer is "up to" something, the hood must not imply everyone gets the top figure. The Central Consumer Protection Authority's 2022 guidelines on misleading advertisements treat bait pricing and unclear "up to" claims as misleading, and the ASCI code applies to auto hoods like any other ad. Our guide to what can't go on an auto ad covers the limits.
- 3The locality. "Opposite Metro station, Sector 18" is what turns familiarity into a visit.
- 4An EMI line, if you offer it. "No-cost EMI available" is a real decision factor for a ₹40,000 purchase and takes five words.
- 5One response mechanism. A phone number or a QR to the offer page, not both and not a website address typed from memory.
Keep the brand name large and the offer larger. Change the offer between bookings, not inside one, because a reprint mid-campaign is a second printing bill and a week of the fleet looking inconsistent.
Which Zones, and How Many Autos?
Buy the catchment, not the city.
- A single showroom: 30 to 50 hood autos in two zones that together cover the 5 to 8 km around the store, weighted towards the residential pockets the store already delivers to. Your delivery register is the best zone map you own: the pin codes that already buy are the pin codes to saturate.
- A chain with several stores in a city: one zone of 25 to 40 autos per store rather than one thin city-wide fleet. Each hood carries its own store's locality.
- A stand-alone sale event or a new store: add a short, dense burst around the date, inside the three-month booking, as our store opening guide describes.
For working out the fleet size from the catchment, use our fleet-size and zone-density planner. Drivers who start and end their day near the showroom strip spend the most time in its catchment, so ask the vendor for stands near the store rather than across the city.
What Does a Big-Ticket Retail Campaign Cost?
Media is charged per auto per month, with a three-month minimum. Printing is one-time on top, and metro union charges are a separate line where they apply.
| Format | Media rate per auto per month | 40 autos for 3 months |
|---|---|---|
| Hood branding | ₹580 | ₹69,600 |
| 24×18 inch sticker | ₹230 | ₹27,600 |
| 24×6 inch sticker | ₹140 | ₹16,800 |
Printing a hood is about ₹250 to ₹400 per auto, once, so a 40-auto hood fleet adds ₹10,000 to ₹16,000 in printing. At an estimated 10,000 to 12,000 daily impressions per hood auto, 40 autos deliver roughly 36 to 43 million impressions over 90 days, which works out to about ₹1.6 to ₹1.9 per thousand impressions on media. That sits inside the ₹1.5 to ₹2.5 CPM range in our cost guide.
For a single-category showroom with a tight budget, the 24×18 inch sticker carries a category, an offer and a locality clearly. The hood is the better choice for a multi-brand electronics or furniture showroom that needs to be seen from across a main road.

How Do You Measure Whether the Autos Brought Buyers?
Big-ticket retail has one advantage over most categories: every sale is billed with a name, a phone number and a delivery address, so attribution is a question of asking.
- Ask at billing. "How did you hear about us?" with "the autos" as an option. Train the floor staff to ask every customer, not just the ones who mention it.
- Map deliveries to zones. Compare the share of deliveries going to the auto zones during the campaign with the same season last year.
- Use a store-specific number or QR. A phone number used only on the hoods, or a QR that opens the offer page with a campaign tag, separates auto response from everything else. Our post on QR codes and phone numbers on transit ads explains placement and what to expect.
- Count EMI enquiries. Finance desk enquiries are a leading indicator for this category: they rise before sales do.
- Ask for proof of deployment. Photo verification and the registration list show the fleet was in the catchment. Our GPS tracking and photo verification guide covers what to request.
Report the comparison honestly. A good festive season has many causes, so present the auto zones against the non-auto zones as an indication of lift, not proof.
What Goes Wrong in This Category?
Across 5,000+ autos, 500+ brands and 20+ cities since 2020, the big-ticket retail campaigns that disappointed shared a short list of causes:
- Starting the week before Dhanteras. The fleet goes live as the peak ends. Start in September.
- A hood with twelve products. Nobody reads it, and the store looks like a bazaar.
- Ending on the festival. The post-Diwali and wedding fortnight is when many households finally buy.
- Changing the offer mid-campaign. Two reprints, two installation rounds and a confused fleet.
- Spreading a 40-auto fleet across a city. Thirteen autos per zone is invisible. Two dense zones are not.
Our post on common auto advertising mistakes covers the general version of each.
How Does This Fit the Wider Picture?
India's auto rickshaw fleet runs into the millions of registered vehicles on MoRTH's Vahan data, and autos work the residential last mile where big-ticket purchases are decided and delivered. The Pitch Madison Advertising Report has for years shown outdoor as a steady share of Indian ad spend, and Nielsen's out-of-home research finds that people remember messages they pass repeatedly on their daily routes. Consumer durables and furniture are among the categories where that repetition matters most, because the gap between first noticing a need and paying for it is measured in weeks.
The furniture and appliance showrooms we see do best on autos are the ones that treat the medium as a three-month locality campaign rather than a one-week sale announcement: one category, one honest offer, the store's locality, inside the catchment, started before the season.
A big-ticket buyer does not need to be convinced by an auto. They need to already know where you are on the Saturday they finally go out to buy.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many autos does a furniture or electronics showroom need?
Usually 30 to 50 hood autos concentrated in two zones covering the 5 to 8 km catchment around the store, weighted towards the pin codes the store already delivers to. A chain should book a zone of 25 to 40 autos per store rather than one thin city-wide fleet.
When should an appliance store start its Diwali auto campaign?
By mid-September, so the fleet is fully installed before Dussehra and runs through Dhanteras, Diwali and the fortnight after. In 2026 Dhanteras falls on 6 November and Diwali on 8 November. A brief in the last week of October gets rush charges and second-choice zones.
Can we advertise EMI offers on an auto hood?
Yes. A short line such as "No-cost EMI available" is a legitimate decision factor for big-ticket purchases. Keep the terms accurate and avoid implying that every customer qualifies; finance claims fall under the ASCI code and the CCPA guidelines on misleading advertisements.
What does a 40-auto campaign cost for a showroom?
₹69,600 in media for three months of hood branding at ₹580 per auto per month, plus about ₹10,000 to ₹16,000 in one-time printing and metro union charges where they apply.
How do we know the autos brought customers?
Ask "how did you hear about us" at billing, map deliveries to the auto zones against the same season last year, use a store-specific phone number or a tagged QR on the hood, and watch EMI enquiries, which rise before sales do.
