Quick Answer

Run wedding season autos when families decide, not on wedding dates. Venues, caterers and photographers need autos live two to three months before the season; outfits, jewellery and makeup four to eight weeks before. Book three months: 50 to 70 hood autos cost ₹29,000 to ₹40,600 a month.

Key Takeaways

  • Every wedding business sells at a different distance from the wedding date. Venues and caterers are chosen months ahead, outfits and jewellery weeks ahead, makeup and sweets in the final weeks. Time the autos to the decision, not the ceremony.
  • In much of North and West India, weddings cluster from late November to mid-December and again from mid-January to early March, with a further run in April to June. Check the local panchang: dates vary by region and community.
  • Book a minimum of three months. Wedding decisions are made by families over weeks, and recall builds through months two to four.
  • Match the format to the business: the hood at ₹580 per auto a month for a venue or a large ethnic wear store, the 24×18 inch sticker at ₹230 for a makeup artist, decorator or photographer.
  • A one-day event or a single weekend expo is a poor fit for autos. A venue or organiser that runs events all season is a good one.

Who Should Advertise on Autos for the Wedding Season?

A wedding in India is bought from many local businesses, and most of them sell within one city. That makes the wedding economy a natural fit for a medium that works street by street. The businesses we see benefit most:

  • Banquet halls, lawns and marriage gardens. A venue is the first and largest decision, and families shortlist halls they have heard of.
  • Caterers, decorators and tent houses. Often found through word of mouth, which autos strengthen by making the name familiar before a relative recommends it.
  • Ethnic wear stores and boutiques. Lehengas, sherwanis and sarees are bought in the weeks before the wedding, usually in a known market.
  • Jewellers. Covered in detail in our guide to jewellery and premium retail.
  • Bridal makeup studios, mehendi artists and salons. Small businesses with a local clientele and a tight budget.
  • Photographers, sweet shops, gift and card printers. Each one gets a short burst of orders in the final weeks.

Auto rickshaws work the residential lanes and market roads where these families live and shop. A hood-branded auto delivers 10,000 to 12,000 impressions a day at a CPM of about ₹1.5 to ₹2.5. Our guide to hyperlocal marketing and zone targeting explains why a moving fleet suits businesses whose customers live inside a defined area.

When Is the Wedding Season in India?

It depends on the region and the community, because wedding dates follow auspicious days (muhurat) in the Hindu calendar, and other communities follow their own calendars. As a broad pattern in much of North and West India:

  • Late November to mid-December. Weddings resume after Dev Uthani Ekadashi, which ends the four-month Chaturmas period in which many families avoid weddings.
  • Mid-January to early March. After the Kharmas period of mid-December to mid-January, the second main run begins.
  • April to June. A further run in many regions, often around Akshaya Tritiya.

South and East India follow different months, and the exact dates change every year. Before you plan, check the local panchang for your city, or simply ask the venues and caterers in your area which months their calendars fill up. They know better than any national pattern.

When Should Each Wedding Business Run Its Autos?

Plan backwards from when the family decides, not from the wedding day. This is the single biggest mistake we see: a banquet hall that runs autos during the wedding season is advertising to families who booked a hall months ago.

When each wedding business should have autos on the road

Ethnic wear, jewelleryFour to eight weeks beforeSix to eight weeks before the seasonThree weeks before the fleet goes live
Makeup, mehendi, sweets, giftsThe final weeksFour weeks before the seasonThree weeks before the fleet goes live

The "three weeks" comes from how long a campaign takes. About 21 days pass between a signed brief and a full fleet on the road: around five days for the brief and artwork proof, a week of printing, and a week or more of phased installation, as set out in our 21-day launch timeline.

For example, a boutique aiming at the late November weddings wants its fleet live by early October, so its brief should be signed in mid-September. A banquet hall reading this in October should plan for the January to March season instead, with its fleet live by early November. If your wedding season overlaps Navratri and Diwali, book earlier still, because market zones fill up in the festive season, as our festival season guide explains.

Why Book Three Months for a Wedding Business?

Because wedding decisions are made slowly, by several people. A family may visit four halls over six weeks and ask relatives for names before choosing one. The name that wins is often the one everybody has already heard of. Auto advertising builds that familiarity through repetition. Across our campaigns on 5,000+ autos and 500+ brands since 2020, months two to four consistently show the steepest rise in attributable leads, which is why we book a minimum of three months and explain the reasoning in common auto advertising mistakes.

A three-month booking also covers a whole season. A fleet live from early October to early January stays on the road through the November to December weddings, in the weeks families shop for them.

Which Format Suits Which Wedding Business?

Banquet hall, lawn, large showroomHood at ₹58075 to 110 across three zones₹43,500 to ₹63,800₹1,30,500 to ₹1,91,400

Printing is a one-time cost on top: ₹250 to ₹400 per hood and ₹40 to ₹80 per sticker. Metro cities add union charges, and Tier-2 cities generally do not. The full rate card is in our cost guide, and the zone method behind the fleet sizes is in our fleet-size planner.

The hood suits a venue or a store that wants to look established: 8.33 sq ft of display, readable from 30 to 50 metres. The 24×18 inch sticker is the honest choice for a one-person business, as long as the fleet stays inside one zone. Banquet halls need more zones than a makeup studio because families travel across the city for a venue, while a bride usually books a makeup artist close to home.

Where Should the Autos Run in Wedding Season?

Three places:

  1. 1The wedding market. Most cities have a street or bazaar where families buy outfits, jewellery and trousseau. Autos that carry passengers to and from it are carrying your customers.
  2. 2The residential pockets your customers come from. Your past bookings show them. Plot the addresses from last season and the zones will be obvious.
  3. 3The area around the venue. For a hall or lawn, autos around the venue itself also help guests and families find it.

Can You Use Autos to Promote a One-Off Event?

Usually not, and we would rather say so than sell it. An auto campaign runs for at least three months and builds recall over weeks. A single wedding expo, a one-day concert or a two-day sale is decided in a few days, and most of the media would run before or after it. For a single date, newspaper inserts, WhatsApp, local radio and social ads around the venue are better tools, as our comparison of autos and newspaper inserts sets out.

Autos do fit event businesses whose events run all season:

  • A venue that hosts events every week, such as a banquet hall, a convention centre or an event ground. Brand the venue, not a single date.
  • An organiser running a series, such as a weekend market across a whole season or a run of exhibitions at one ground.
  • An event company or wedding planner selling its services across the whole season.

In each case the hood carries the name, the place and a number, which stay true for three months, rather than a date that expires.

What Should a Wedding Season Hood Say?

One name, one promise, one place, one number:

  • The business name, large. Families shortlist names they recognise.
  • One line on what you do. "Bridal lehengas", "Lawn for 800 guests" or "Bridal makeup at home" reads in the few seconds a hood gets.
  • The locality or a landmark. "Near the main market" tells a family you are on their route.
  • A phone or WhatsApp number, large enough to read across the road.

A hood is read from about 30 metres in a few seconds, so the limits in our 30-metre design rule apply in full.

How Do You Measure Enquiries From Wedding Season Autos?

Wedding bookings arrive weeks or months after the first contact, so count enquiries, not bookings:

  • Use a phone or WhatsApp number that appears only on the autos, or a QR code, as our guide to tracking response with QR codes and phone numbers describes.
  • Ask every enquiry how they heard of you, with "auto" as an option, and write it down.
  • Compare season with season. A November that beats last November is the result that counts, not one that beats August.
  • Check the deployment. Ask for a GPS-tagged photo of every auto with its registration number, as set out in our verification guide.

How Does This Fit the Wider Picture?

Auto rickshaws are among the largest commercial vehicle fleets on Indian roads, as MoRTH's Vahan registration data shows, and they run through the residential lanes and market streets where wedding shopping happens. The Pitch Madison Advertising Report has for years shown outdoor holding a steady share of Indian ad spend, and Nielsen's out-of-home research has consistently found that outdoor ads are noticed by many of the people who pass them. Our own experience, across 5,000+ autos and 500+ brands in 20+ cities since 2020, is that wedding businesses do best when the fleet is local, booked early and kept running for the whole season.

A family chooses a hall months before the wedding. The autos have to be on the road when they are choosing, not when they are celebrating.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should a banquet hall start auto advertising for the wedding season?

Two to three months before the season starts, because families choose venues well in advance. For the January to March weddings, have the fleet live by early November and sign the brief three weeks earlier.

How much does wedding season auto advertising cost?

A makeup artist or decorator can run 25 to 40 autos on the 24×18 inch sticker for ₹5,750 to ₹9,200 a month. A store or caterer running 50 to 70 hood autos pays ₹29,000 to ₹40,600 a month. Printing is extra and one-time.

Can I advertise a one-day wedding expo on autos?

We recommend against it. Auto campaigns run for at least three months, so most of the media would run before or after a single date. Use inserts, WhatsApp and social ads for a one-off event.

Which months are the wedding season in India?

In much of North and West India, late November to mid-December, mid-January to early March, and April to June. Dates vary by region and community, so check the local panchang.

Should wedding dates or offers go on the hood?

No. The hood runs for three months and dates expire. Put the name, what you do, the locality and a number on the hood, and share dates and offers on WhatsApp and leaflets.

Jewellery and Premium Retail on Autos: When Perception Formats Pay Off

Every jewellery client asks the same first question: will auto advertising cheapen the brand. The honest answer is that the medium is neutral and the panel decides.
